The Virginia Community Action Re-Entry System (CARES) is a statewide initiative to target the needs of offenders. The program conducts Life Skills Workshops within correctional facilities, prisoners can voluntarily participate and attain critical skills to better prepare them for a successful release. Staff will direct post-release offenders toward jobs, housing, and community resources. CARES has devised a hands-on-approach in order to address the direct needs of prisoners before and after release.
Service Area
Pre-release serves: Appalachian, Keene Mountain, Marion, Tazewell, Pulaski,
Wise, Southwest Day Reporting Center.
Post-release serves: Russell, Smyth and Washington Counties and the City of Bristol, Virginia.
Eligibility/Income Guidelines
Incarceration in the state prison system.
